When stability is the brand 🏙️
For countries that have built their reputations on predictability and openness, conflict can be an uncomfortable communications test.
In times of war, public relations can seem inconsequential. But it shouldn't. As most readers of this missive know only too well, public emergencies require an intrinsic commitment to well-planned and articulated communications, as a non-negotiable element of any country's social contract with its residents.
Of course, as the pandemic reminded us, this does not always proceed as smoothly as it should. The public sector is not immune to the jaundiced regard in which communications investment is sometimes held, and crisis situations regularly remind us of the perils of poor preparation. But the unfolding conflict in the Middle East offers a salutary reminder of the critical role that communications plays when it comes to emergency situations.
